Copper-Gold Mineralization Continues To Be Intersected At Dm, Audra Zones

Abacus Mining and Exploration Corp. (TSX.V:AME) ("Abacus") has recently received results from Holes DA-04-007 to DA-04-017 for its exploration program on the Afton project, near Kamloops, in south central British Columbia. Diamond drilling is still continuing, and to date approximately half of a planned 15,000 metre, Phase 2 drill program has been completed. Drilling is mainly focusing on expanding the open-pit potential for copper-gold mineralization along a 2.5 km long strike length.

Previous work in the area outlined three known zones of copper-gold mineralization known as DM, Audra and Crescent. These zones sit within a 5 km long structural corridor that stretches from the Afton Pit deposit to the west, eastwards to the Big Onion deposit. A small tonnage was mined by open-pit from the Crescent Zone by Afton Operating Corp. (now TeckComico Ltd) in the late 1980's. Current work by Abacus is exploring the potential of a large tonnage deposit that would encompass all three zones. The following table lists all significant intersections from Abacus' 2004 drilling on the DM-Audra-Crescent zone, including those previously released. A drill plan map will shortly be available on the company's web site at: (http://www.amemining.com/properties/afton_properties/
audra_and_crescent/photo_gallery/).

  • Copper equivalent calculations are determined using average metal prices of US$0.90/pound copper, US$400/ounce gold, and US$200/ounce palladium. Copper equivalent calculations reflect gross metal content and have not been adjusted for metallurgical recoveries.
  • Holes DA-04-001 through DA-04-006 have been previously released

Of particular interest is hole R-04-017 that was drilled on the western margin of the Audra zone. It intersected a broad, well mineralized breccia zone similar to that encountered at the DM zone and provides strong evidence that the two zones are part of the same mineralizing system.

Overall, copper and gold mineralization occurs in fractures and disseminations within the breccia zones. Additionally, zones of gold enrichment can be related to northerly trending faults with or without appreciable copper. For example, in hole DA-04-012, a 12.0 metre fault zone assayed 0.5 g/t gold with no copper. These fault zones may provide a secondary target within the structural corridor.

Current drilling continues to explore the open-pit potential of the DM-Audra-Crescent trend. This includes several recently completed holes in the east Audra and Crescent pit areas (results pending). While the company is excited about expanding on the copper-gold mineralization outlined on the Rainbow property in 2002 to 2004, and is looking forward to starting work in the gold rich Coquihalla area between Rainbow and the Afton pit, the open pit potential of the DMAudra- Crescent zone continues to be its priority.

Eco Tech Laboratory Ltd. of Kamloops, B.C. has completed all of the Company's analytical work on the project. A quality control program, using specific standards and blank samples is ongoing, using Eco Tech and ALS Chemex Labs of North Vancouver, B.C. Mr. Robert R. Friesen, P. Geo and Mr. Robert Darney, P. Geo are the qualified persons responsible for the design and conduct of the work performed.
